BARB

The first telivision show that i am going to talk about that relates to my documentary is the apprentice. this is a reality show that is about young business men and woman in a competition where thay have to make sales and the winner judged by sir alan sugar gets to be typicaly hes apprentice.

Show title
The apprentice

Shows broadcast day, channel and timeslot?
The show is broadcasted on thursdays at 8:00pm on BBC1. This relates to my show because y show will be shown on BBC3 which is another brand of BBC and my show will also be on at 8:00pm.

Shows viewing figures for the week?
On average the apprentice has 7million viewers a week.

What similarities does the shows format and content have with my own?
The similarities that the apprentice has with my documentary is that they are both work related, however my documentary is about youths trying and failing to get work and the apprentice is a show about business contestants trying to win a competition to get a job. also the apprentice has a spin off show called the young apprentice which is a game show about young aspiring business men and women trying to get a job with Lord Alan Sugar.

How my show would beat the viewing figures?
My show would beat the apprentice for viewing figures because the apprentice is aimed at a slightly higher audience where as my documentary is aimed at a younger audience aswell as an older audience. also i could get older viewers such as aprents that want to know about how their children can get employed.

The second telivision show i am going to talk about is the secret millionaire. this is a show where a millionaire would go undercover and live the lifestyle of a poor person trying hard to get a job and working and trying to get money. and then at the end of this proccess the millionaire would reveal hes status and donate some money to the business or people he or she has made friends with.

Show title
Secret millionaire

Shows broadcast day, channel and timeslot?
The show is broadcasted on Sundays at 9:00pm on channel 4. this would relate to my show because of the time slot. however i think that my show would get more views because sundays everyone wouldnt stay up to late because of school and work the next day.

What similarities our shows have?
My show is similar to secret millionaire because my documentary is about youth unemployment and the dificulties of trying to get a job. and secret millionaire is about millionaires going undercover and trying to help the not soo well to do.

How my show would beat the viewing figures?
My show would beat secret millionaire with viewing figures because secret millionaire is aimed at a slightly older audience and it is not informing the viewers as to why people have poor jobs and how they got their jobs, where as my documentary will explain why unemploymen is high and what can be done. also sunday evening TV is not very popular because the audience would be tired and getting ready for work the next day or school or college.

show viewing figures?
Secret millionaire recieved an average of around 2.18million viewers every week.

The final show im going to compare with my documentary is question time on the london riots. this was a show where a panel of experts from both sides of the argument over the london riots debated and answered the audiences questions and tied to solve and find out why the london riots happend and what we have learned from it.

Show name
question time

Shows broadcast day, channel and time slot?
question time isnt a weekly episodic programme however this show was broadcatsed on a sunday at 6:00pm on bbc1

what similarities our shows have?
the similarities our shows have is that they are both aimed at the youth. however question time was talking about the youth in the london riots and my documentary is about youth unemployment and why its at an all time high and what other alternatives there are for youths. it links in because the london riots could of been caused from unemployment.

how my show would beat the viewing figures?
My documentary would win over more views because the question time show looks at a more political side to it and it could be boring. also the time it is on is quite early. where as my show is informative and interesting and is on and is on at a suitable time.

After doing my research on these other programmes i would broadcast my show around the time region of 7:30pm to 9:00pm because the apprentice got the most views and that was on at 8:00pm and secret millionaire was on at 9:00pm and got less than half the views so that would be too late. also the question timie show was at 6:00pm and got a small ammount of views because perhaps it was to early. also id show it ona weekday where everyone isnt busy socialising on the weekends and i would put it on on a tuesday, wednesday or a thursday because i feel this is when pepole are most likely to watch TV.

Final proposal

Aims
To find out why it is so hard for youths to get jobs? what other alternatives are?
Why is the youth unemployment rate so high? how is it measured? who is responsible for youth unemployment?
where can unemployed youths go for help to get employment? Who will this effect the most? I aim to find out all of these questions and find out more about youths that are unemployed and youths that are employed and get to know their lifestyle.

 Content
For my documentary I will have interviews with experts and normal people. all the information i will give out would be true so i can keep it a factual and reliable piece of footage that everyone will watch and believe that is true. i am going to try and get interviews with local MP's and i already have an interview in place with my aunt and a few of her colleagues who work for job center. also i will be conducting interviews with students who have got jobs and who haven't to find out whether it was an easy or had process and how they feel it went. i will also have a few interviews with some university students.

Target Audience

  • Age: it will be aimed towards young people within the age of 16-24.
  • gender: it will be aimed at both genders so that it appeals to everyone and more people watch the documentary and learn something.
  • interests: it will be for young people who are interested in getting into work and how they can do so and for parents that may want to help their children.
  • Lifestyle: it will be for people who have no links into the working world and have to get jobs by themselves. also for people who have got jobs and failed.
  • Ethnicities: it will appeal to all ethnicity but it is being broadcasted in Britain so mainly British people.
Format:

The format i am going to use for my documentary is participatory becuase iwill be very muich involved with the documentary because in the documentary i will apply to a job and see what happens with my job application. also i will give alot of facts and conduct interviews and give alot of omy opinions.

Genre:
in my documentary the genre i focus on will be serioussness because iot is a serious matter in the country at the moment. this will also add effect to the interviews as it is a serious matter so the viewer will know how to see the footage.
Styles
When i film my interviews i will film it in the style of shot reverse shot so it is easily understandable about who is talking. also i will introduce the person i am interviewing through a voiceover on a piece of footage of me on my journey. also i wont cut bits of iunterviews out and add them into different parts because this may confuse the viewer.
